Liberty is the default theme for my upcoming LiteStep distro. It's highly configurable, totally res-independent and comes with a matching Visual Style for XP.

Looking nice.
Looks like its roots are based on Austerity.

The fact that I had to google "austerity litestep" should hint that no, it's absolutely not based on that theme... I don't use OTS, never have and never will. :)

I guess both themes are based on the same loosely KDE-ish concept though.

wow, looks very cool indeed. Im looking forward to see it finished. It looks like a better windows, which should be very helpful for newbies.

West, I tested the first version and it was awesome. But I found myself right clicking all the time and did not like setup. The theme functions great and has many options. Non Ots was a bummer for me cause its all I run.
This is like a forked distro.

Cool, thanks for testing it, Immortal. As for the lack of right-click popup, well, I wanted to create something that would make sense to first-time users, people who come directly from explorer. And launching the main popup from both the panel and right-click seemed a little redundant. Maybe I should add an option for having the popup on RMB though...

I understand your theory.
And yes I would add that option..
I'm running dual mon setup now and I have to go across two screens to access my popup.
I'd love to test out what you have added.
Would you consider me doing a skin for it?
hmmm... OTS2 support I'll do it also!

I am not fully understanding why it's leaning towards a Distro instead of an advanced LS theme?

West wrote on July 22, 2005 at 11:07:

Well... to make a long story short I've never liked OTSx. The standard is all about easy theme installation/switching and hides practically everything that goes on from the user. It doesn't really encourage people to take charge of their interface, which IMHO is what LS is about. Hiding the advanced options from the users, that's the Microsoft way. After all, LS isn't for everyone and idiot-friendly frontends isn't gonna change that.

I want to create a distro that's a little easier and a little more "open", a distro that encourgaes people to learn.

I'd be happy to let you do a skin for Liberty (it'll have changeable theme styles), but it's probably wise to wait until the theme's more finished. As for OTS support... thanks, but no thanks :)

No problem on the ots support...

Let me know when you come along further with Liberty.

Thanks West,
